The NCAA today legislated a three year probation against the University of Central Oklahoma's football program for providing "improper benefits" to recruits and student athletes.

The Division II school was found responsible for major and secondary violations, as well as 'failure to monitor' and unethical conduct violations.

Meanwhile, Kansas State was cleared of all charges stemming from an investigation into alleged academic misconduct and illegal benefits.

And, Reggie Bush's deposition is still on for February 25. But at this time, no sanctions have been levied, in spite of the apparent evidence against Bush and USC.

What makes KSU and USC different than UCO? Well, they're Division 1 (Bowl subdivision), and generate revenue for the NCAA via television contracts.

Anywho, news today is promising- Division 1-A (Bowl Movement) Athletic Directors agreed to "acceptable standards" regarding hiring practices for minority candidates, including mandatory interview benchmarks.

This is being applauded by more than just folks hereabouts, and is seen as a version of the NFL's "Rooney Rule."

Lest we get too excited, though-

The policy does not include a mechanism for punishing a school that does not comply with the requirement.

You mean the NCAA is not willing to enforce their own policies and hold institutions accountable? Shockng, really.
