Weak- um- Week Ten

Another blockbuster week of college football- it was good to see our group get off the "Schnide" as it were. And it was a tough week, too... Our best only manages 7-3. This was due in part to:

• Ntre Ame losing their O again, and failing to score a TD in overtimes. Offensive genius my eye.
• TCU continues to roll, crushing the Running Rebels.
• Nebraska. Well, shoot. The best thing about this game was the Tom Osborne commercial about 6 minutes in, where we got to see Dr. Sam Fuenning for a second. They did play it close in the second half, though. (if anyone can find it online, send it to me and I'll post it)
  
• Ohio State did not lose for the first consecutive week. And Kentucky won. Whee.
  
• Mizzou forced the first interception from Baylor's freshman QB this season, a NCAA record. And the Tigers struggled to hold on, solidifying the argument that the Big 12's power base is in the south.
  
• TBPU trounced the cyclones- you'd think Picken's boys would be more generous with windy foes.
• UWillingham looked hapless against the Men of Troy.
• MACh1gAAn ended a 33 year "Bowl Elligibility" streak by choking against Purdue's backup quarterback. I'll be giggling all week.
  
• Cal survived a deluge to beat Oregon, in a game where Oregon's uniforms were not the ugliest on the field.
• Arkansas ended the undefeated hopes of the Golden Hurricanes.
  
• Georgia has become the "Ohio State of the SEC"- can't win big games, limited offense, etc. I think there coaches may have something else important in common.
• Illinois held off Iowa. Yawn.
• What in the world has happened to Auburn and Tennesee? Yikes.
  
• In the game of the week, The Mad Scientist, Head Pirate Vince Gill, was left with too much time against Texas and found a play on his 3x5 card to vault the Red Raiders over #1 Texas on the last play of the game. People who are kicking themselves today include this guy and Joe Snell. To celebrate, TTU now gets to play TBPU and Oklahoma in back to back weeks.
• Anderson defeated Bluffton because Joe is a great coach, while APU continued it's sad season by losing to Central Washington.
• Did you hear that Mt. Ida defeated Gallaudet?
  

Like I said earlier, it's good to have some change at the top of the board. Congrats on a great week, Jake- you must not be letting Tuberville pick for you.
As always, if Doug hadn't missed a week he'd be dangerous. As it is, he's making a great late season showing.
The "Going to Vegas" award goes to Janie- most points for the least correct picks. The "Must be sleep deprived" award goes to Daddy Dan, who's only been over 500 twice in the past seven weeks.
Dan is still in the 99.5 percentile nationally. I just hope he remembers the little people once he wins.
Cat still holds the top spot, and just completed a cross country move. Let there be no excuses about missing a week- She's moving, and made it in; two people were in Africa last year and got their picks in. Just sayin'.

And now, it's time for "one guy's opinion"- If the "C" in "BC$" stood for "Chuck", here's were we'd be:

1. Florida- the Old Miss loss just made them angry
   
2. Alabama- the SEC Championship will be amazing
   
3. Texas Tech- Can the Pirates run the table? Don't think so...
   
4. Penn State- Good defenses give them trouble
5. Texas- Injuries and focus issues
   
6. Oklahoma- Unable to run the ball
   
7. U$C- Offense is suspect, defense is amazing
   
8. Oklahoma State- They play the Sooners in Norman
   
9. Utah- Call me when they've played anyone
   
10. Boise State- See Utah
    
11. Missouri- Fifth place in the Big 12 south, Third in the SEC East
    
12. Ohio State- I'm a homer. Sue me.
    
13. Georgia- Can't seem to win the big one
    
14. TCU- See Utah and Boise State
    
15. BYU- See Utah, Boise State, and TCU
    
16. Ball State- See... you get the point
    

It's interesting to think about what apocalyse the BC$ is in for this year. You could very easily have two one loss SEC teams, four Big 12 teams that beat up on each other (they may use the BCS computers to decide the South champion), and undefeated JoePa and his Zombies with no big game wins, a U$C who may not even win their own conference (go Beavers), and two non BC$ schools who end the year with no losses. Fantastic.

It's also going to be interesting to see if an undefeated JoePa gets left out over a one loss team from the SEC, Big 12 or Pac Ten. Not that it's ever happened before...

Time for a change, ain't it? At the end of the year, I'll be putting this idea to the test with a bracket that would play out the postseason in the manner listed above. Yahoo.

This week's big matchups include TCU being the first team that Utah plays, TBPU and Texas Tech, Ohio State and Northwestern, Alabama at LSU for "Saban Bowl 2", Cal at U$C, Kansas traveling to Nebraska, Arkansas visiting Columbia and Florida travelling to Vandy.

Anderson continues HCAC play against Rose Hulman, and APU concludes it's season (Thank God) against East Texas Baptist.

Highlight game of the week- the Crimson Storm of Southern Nazarene University host Langston for Homecoming 2008. Langston University, named for the great African American poet Langston Hughes, is a Historically Black Insitution located in both Oklahoma City and Tulsa. Known for their amazing goat research facility, their history of civil rights activism, and their excellance in recent blood-drives, the Lions enter this game with a 7-2 record.

The Storm of SNU are answers to the trivia question "What college mascots don't end in 'S'?" (other acceptable answers- Fighting Irish, Red Storm, Orange, Cardinal, Illni, etc). Other than that, we don't know much about SNU other than their recent history of questionable hiring decisions.
