Thoughts from BCS Sunday
Quick ones, as everyone else is doing this much better than I.
Buckeyes return to National Championship after sending 18 seniors and 3 juniors to graduation or the NFL. Not too shabby.
Current Vegas line: LSU -5.5 points. Chuck's thoughts- Give the points, take LSU (home game).
LSU = Les Says Undefeated. Seriously, this is aggravating me more than anything. In the past week, Les has had his "we're undefeated in regulation" speech, and also his "since they're overtime losses, they're only half losses, so we only have one loss" diatribe. With the first set of logic, Ohio State won the national championship last year- they're undefeated in the first three minutes of the Florida game. The same logic could also say LSU lost to Florida and Auburn, since they were behind in the final moments.
About the second... Um, Les? You know you're not coaching hockey, right? There aren't different points for ties and overtime losses.
So, what makes me the most confused about this is that all this BS (can't spell BcS without it) is that it obviously influenced the final poll and numbers- in other words, Miles' whining worked. There's no other way to explain how LSU beats a lower ranked opponent and jumps Virginia Tech- who not only beat a higher ranked team to win their conference championship, but avenged one of their regular season losses (something LSU can't do, since Kentucky and Arkansas are barely bowl eligible).
And yes, I understand that LSU beat Va Tech by 41 earlier in the year. But if beating someone earlier mattered, the Kentucky Wildcats would be in the big game.
Other thoughts- Georgia didn't win their division, didn't play for their conference championship, didn't beat the team that did and they get a BCS game while Tennessee goes to Outback (although Citrus would have made more sense).
Change "Georgia" to "Kansas" and "Tennessee" to "Missouri", and you have even more pissed off fans. Coupled with the fact that Mizzou is the only team in the country to beat two other BCS teams (KU and Illinois), it seems ridiculous that they aren't involved in the larger mix.
Most wonderful time of the year...
